City Lights Brewing, 2210 W. Mount Vernon Ave., will be pouring beers during a soft opening on Feb. 1, said Robin Gohsman, one of the brewery owners.

City Lights is in the former Milwaukee Gas Light Co. building, designed at the beginning of the 20th century by architect Alexander Eschweiler.

Jimmy Gohsman is co-owner and brewer for City Lights. David Ryder, the former vice president of brewing, research, innovation and quality for MillerCoors, joined the brewery last year in the role of chief innovation officer.

Identifiable by its red brick tower, City Lights main building houses the brew house and taproom. Additional production equipment, a canning line and kegging lines are in an adjacent building along with a lab, offices and storage.
