Greetings,
Our beloved Wisconsin Badgers kick-off their journey towards a National Championship this Friday night at 8PM against Utah State. (My favorite game-day rituals are to grab a delicious bite to eat at The Grist Bar and Table http://www.thegristlm.com/ in Lake Mills on the way up and stop at Madison’s http://www.madisonsdowntown.com/ for post-game victory beer.) Thanks to our good friends at the Frank Beverage Group, both The Grist and Madison’s now feature City Lights beers. Cheers!
We’re sending our thoughts and prayers to those in Texas whose lives have been immeasurably impacted by the devastation caused by Tropical Storm Harvey.
The Milwaukee Brewers continue their unlikely run towards a National League Championship with home games Tuesday through Sunday this week. The City Lights Express Shuttle features the friendliest drivers, the quickest routes and the best pre-and post-game beers available. Park for free at City Lights, shuttle to and from Miller Park and enjoy our game-day specials on beer and food!
The Green Bay Packers wrap up their preseason with a game this Thursday evening. And this Thursday begins our season-long football “Groovy Growler Game-Day Gala ” promotion! All growler fills on game days for both the Packers and Badgers will be $5.00 off. But wait, there’s more. The “Groovy Growler Game-Day Gala” continues with every tenth growler customer receiving a free fill. Stop in and hope that nine randoms just left the tap room with a growler of refreshing and freshly brewed City Lights beer.
And if you like great beer, an incredible ambiance, delicious food and free shuttles, you will love our shuttles to each Milwaukee Bucks and Marquette Men’s Basketball games during the 2017/2018 season. With all the construction happening, parking downtown on event day will be nearly impossible and shockingly expensive.
Jimmy the Brewmaster is loving what is happening in the fermenting tank with the City Lights Vienna Lager. Here is how our Chief Innovation Officer Dr. David Ryder describes the fruits of this love: “This lager’s rich, garnet body swiftly releases a malty aroma. As the reddish-copper liquid warms on the palate, an aromatic hop character joins the quiet, sweet maltiness that adds heft. The sweet malt’s flowery honey notes flow seamlessly into the complex but restrained hop bitterness (22 IBUs) while the supportive alcohol presence at 5.5% ABV stays quietly in the background. After mid-glass, a brisk, carbonated crispness is aroused which melds to the slowly increasing hop presence of the Hallertau and Tettnanger hop varieties sharpening the mouthfeel and leading to a greater awareness of well-placed floral notes in the aroma and taste. The finish is an appealing convergence of the hops with a delicate malty underpinning to convey a clean lager character which is carefully balanced and creatively presented. In the words of the spiritually inspired “Blessed are the clean of palate for they shall taste good beer”!”
City Lights will be en fuego this weekend. Jonny Tbird & The MPs rock the house on Friday and Cowboy UP! will amaze City Lights’ guests with their incredible energy and showmanship on Saturday. Both performances start at 7PM.
Our weekend brunches continue to draw rave reviews. There is just something special about enjoying a beer in our idyllic setting with the river rambling gently by and this hectic world slowing down temporarily while enjoying one our delicious brunch offerings.

Demand sometimes outstrips supply for Jimmy the Brewmaster’s City Lights Coconut Porter. The situation is exasperated by the outrageously cool can designs lovingly created by Cory, Megan and Lauren at CYD Designhttp://www.cyddesign.com/. Jimmy is on the brew deck now crafting another 60-barrel batch of what is quickly becoming one of our flagship brews. The 16-ounce can line-up now includes Coconut Porter and American Pale Ale with the City Lights Double IPA soon to join this impressive roster.
Oktoberfest is coming to City Lights! (More info to follow! There was too much excitement and riveting information in this e-mail and I didn’t want to risk overloading your anticipatory capacity with what promises to be the best celebration this side of Munich. Besides, I don’t yet know the correct spelling of “GemÜtlichkeit.”)
Have the best football kick-off weekend ever!
